World Education, a major US-backed NGO with offices in Phnom Penh, asked KMF to plan and film 25 short dramas for Cambodian children. The aim: to expand curiosity and encourage exploration.
The dramas were based on scripts for the award-winning US show Peep and The Big Wide World. KMF worked closely with World Education to adapt the ideas so Khmer children could identify with and enjoy the stories in a local context.
The Cambodian Peep, which took one month to shoot, was filmed in real villages with a cast of appealing children carefully selected from a Phnom Penh dance school.
TV5, one of Cambodia’s most popular channels, started broadcasting the three-month run in October 2007.
KMF, in collaboration with 7-Colours, also re-voiced and re-dubbed Peep’s animation sequences – a total of 4 hours over the 25 programmes.
A second series of Peep was commissioned and completed a year later.
